I purchased the Canon SD770IS to substitute a PowerShot A95. Few years ago, I purchased a Digital Elph for my daughter and found myself using that small and light camera instead of my A95. Given the advancements in technology, it was time to upgrade.

The most important feature in looking for a replacement was the small size and the use of a rechargeable battery. Resolution was less of a deal as the A95, with only five Mpixels, produced clear pictures. The most notable improvement, even over the previous Elph, was in the increased speed of all functions including boot up and picture recording.

Image quality is stellar and the color balance and metering is brilliant. If you now own a Canon digital camera and are upgrading, the standard navigation stays mainly the identical, so that will be common to you. Use of the camera's shooting styles requires the use of menus instead of a physical dial as on the A95.

The screen is fairly big, well enlightened and easy to see, even in shining light. Finally, the most important consideration with digital picture taking should be image quality and ease of use. I have lots of practice with manual SLR picture cameras and similar point and shoots, and this model fits absolutely for true "turn it on and shoot" picture taking. Pictures are crisp and clear with good detail and deep color.

The luminosity measure does a great job of assessing the scene and choosing the best possible combination of shutter speed and aperture.

A high capacity (SDHC) storage card will hold a large amount of photographs even at the highest resolution. Uploading photos to a PC or Mac is smooth with either the provided software or Apple's iPhoto software, which works seamlessly with the camera. I would recommend both a high capacity SD card and the optional leather case to protect the camera, especially if dropped.

This camera just blows me away. It takes brilliant photographs in full-auto mode. In situations where full-auto doesn't quite do the job as good as possible, this camera lets you change the ISO settings, white balance, focus method, and tons of other factors.

I extremely recommend this camera for someone looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight, little and good digital camera. It's simply a marvellous camera at a great price.

by Dave Alberts

I've been using a Canon Powershot I2 IS for the last 3 years now. Very nice camera with a great 12X zoom. Yet, I wanted a digital camera to carry in my pocket. Numerous times I just didn't feel like dragging a big camera with me to parties or events. This camera was the thing I was looking for. I now carry it everywhere.

The photographs it produces are astonishing. The 8 megapixels and 3X zoom produces a picture that you can crop to the point that you get nearly the same image as you would get with the 5 megapixels 12X zoom lens. The movie feature is wonderful too, even greater than the I2 IS.

The camera feels great in your hand with a good, superior feeling. If you have used Canon cameras before the menus are very natural. I would not have purchased this camera (or any camera for that matter) if it did not have the Image Stabilization feature. This is particularly a must as you get older.

We did close-up pictures on flowers and even hair and eyelashes and it's astonishing what resolution we had with the camera and with such clearness. The camera is easy to use and is small sleek and compact. I got the one in brown color and it looks different and sohpisticated without searching too overly girly or masculine. Sound quality all over the video recording was crisp and pictures were nice and vivid and not at all pixelated.

By the way there is an advantage to the Brown color: If you get to use the optical view finder outside, the camera itself produces minimum glare for you eye to see more clearly through the small opening. The color also makes the LCD playback pop. And as a bonus, it really makes the camera a luxury look, you have to see it in person to appreciate the color.

I recently took it to a monthly card party and everyone got wild over it. So much so that one person sat right down at the computer and bought one!

If you want a sub-compact, little camera that takes good photographs, I highly recommend the Canon SD1100IS. Definitely a great buy and well worth the money.

There are some basic rules in beginners photography that will help start you on the path to becoming successful in digital photography. The first is to learn the relationship between aperture and shutter speed in exposure. In digital photography, the aperture controls the size of the opening in the lens, and the shutter speed controls how long the shutter is open.

The ordinary viewer's eyes can decide to contain any exacting object in ideal focus, while a lens has to prefer an exact crucial point and in photographers view point it is called as depth of field. The remoteness in the region of the central plane will still appear to be in pointed focus and it is the importance of this photography techniques. This dissimilarity presents the photographer with a significant interpretive alternative.

Most people have different ways of picking a digital camera. Perhaps they try each one out in the shop, or ask family and friends which camera they'd recommend. All of these ways are good, and they'll help you pick a nice digital camera.

I find that I prefer to shop around, and check out the features of a wide variety of cameras. My criteria are good features, high quality and low cost. The Canon Powershot a590is is the camera that suits me the best.

The price of the a590is ranges from $80 to $300. I find that shopping online offers the best bargains. You can easily see what features the camera has, and quickly compare prices. It's also good to buy the camera from a store, because then you can check out the features.

You also may be wondering why the canon powershot a590is price is so cheap if it is so good. Its simply because they can. The canon powershot a590is is so easy to use all you need is a little time to skim through the owners manual and you will be ready to take beautiful pictures.

There is another model of camera, the a570is. Searching the web will let you compare this camera with the a590is. Both of them are Canon Powershot cameras. I think that the a590is was the best deal for me, but both of them are good.

In truth, though, I don't think you could go wrong with either of these cameras. They are both high quality, and the stunning pictures means that they are worth more than what you pay for them. The photos it takes look professional.

The canon powershot a590is features include, shutter-priority, aperture-priority, image stabilization (anti-shake), snapshooter, a zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD screen, and internal memory. The canon powershot a590is takes AA batteries. It can take CompactFlash, Memory Stick, xD-Picture Card, or Secure Digital/MultiMediaCards. You can use those sort of things for transferring your pictures to another device such as you computer.

To simply read the canon a590is reviews, type into a web browser canon a590is reviews and search for the entire phrase canon a590is reviews in the title of the search link of the description. Then you can make your own decision from the experiences of others.

by Ryan Alberts

I bought the Canon SD770IS to substitute my PowerShot A95. A few years ago, I purchased a Digital Elph for my daughter and found myself using that small and light camera, instead of my A95. Due to the advancements in technology, it was time to upgrade.

The most crucial feature in searching for a replacement was a small size and the use of a rechargeable battery. Resolution was less a factor as the A95, with just 5 Mpixels, produced clear images. The most powerful advance, even over the recent Elph, was in the increased speed of all functions including boot up and picture recording.

Image quality is stellar and the color balance and metering is brilliant. If you now own a Canon digital camera and are upgrading, the standard navigation stays mainly the identical, so that will be common to you. Use of the camera's shooting styles requires the use of menus instead of a physical dial as on the A95.

The screen is fairly large, well enlightened and easy to view, even in bright light. Finally, the most important condition with digital picture taking should be image quality and ease of use. I have years of experience with manual SLR film cameras and similar point and shoots, and this model fits perfectly for true "turn it on and shoot" picture taking. Images are clear and vivid with solid detail and vibrant color.

The light measure does a great job of assessing the settings and choosing the best possible combination of shutter speed and aperture.

It makes amazing pictures in full-auto mode. In situations where full-auto doesn't quite do the job as well as possible, this camera lets you change the ISO settings, light balance, focus method, and lots of other factors.

I extremely recommend this camera for someone looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight, little and good digital camera. It's simply a marvellous camera at a great price.

This article will outline 3 different types of cameras: Box, Folding-Roll, and Viewfinder. This information will help you decide which camera suits your photography needs the best.

For over several decades the box camera was the gadget of choice for the typical amateur photographer. This is because it was cheap and simple, yet still capable of excellent results under most conditions. Box cameras were usually fitted with a single-element lens, a limited range opening control, and a single-speed shutter.

Next up is the Folding-Roll Film Camera, which was also very popular but not quite as much so as the box camera. The folding camera came in several types of formats, but basically, it was a box camera whose lens was included into a movable disk that could slide back and forth on a rail, allowing the lens to change focus from close to long range.

There were more complicated models available, but they were more expensive and considered very high quality. But, the most important benefit that they had over the box camera, was their compact design when folded, which made them easier to pack and transport. There has been something of a minor renaissance in folding-roll film cameras in recent years, with appearance of several new professional instruments. They are appreciated for their large negative size and compact design.

Next is a Viewfinder type camera which does not use a lens to view the subject but instead relies on a separate viewing system in the camera for aiming and for focus. The range finder camera allows for accurate focus, however, by using two views of the same subject to adjust focus. In this camera there are two images in the viewfinder. One is usually only a portion of the viewer area and is usually slightly yellowish in color. The photographer adjusts the focus ring on the lens and as they do the two images move. When both on directly on top of each other they blend together and almost disappear which signifies that the camera is in focus. The rangefinder is accurate and very quiet as well as being light weight. It is also useful for taking pictures in low light conditions or for candid photographs. These cameras can easily be spotted because of their double view windows in the front.

Enjoy your photography hobby and remember " keep experimenting with different angles and new lighting. Dont be afraid to get creative!

by Dan Eitreim

Terrific photographs can be ruined by distracting shadows.

The bad news is; shadows are a constant problem for photographers. The good news is, there are a number of simple "fixes".

First, what causes the shadow? Well, obviously it is caused by the light hitting your subject and not hitting the background behind them.

Not to state the obvious, but if you have a problem with shadows falling on the background, the most basic fix is to remove the background. TaaDaa! If there is no background for the shadow to fall on...there's no visible shadow.

So, start out by removing the background if you can.

If you're shooting outdoors, position your subject so that there is nothing behind them! Easy enough.

If you are indoors, obviously you can't take down the walls, but you can move the subject further away from them! Shoot them closer to the middle of the room instead of right up against the wall and your ugly shadow problems will disappear.

Another way to approach the problem is to add another light source that is hitting the backdrop.

If you're lighting your subject with "studio" type lights; get your model lit the way you want and then add another light that bypasses the model and lights up the background.

The additional bonus to this is that with the use of colored gels, cookies, and scrims - you can make this background light throw different colors, shapes and patterns onto the background. That way, you can make it into a design element not just a shadow removal system.

Here's how light and shadows work. Imagine a billiards table, light is like a ball sitting on the table. If you roll it into the cushion, it will bounce off at the same angle it hit the cushion. Light is like that. It bounces off at the same angle it hits the subject. (When trying to eliminate eyeglass glare - remember that tip.)

Shadows don't bounce, they are ALWAYS perfectly in line with the light. You can fix your problem shadow by moving the light so that it strikes the subject in such a way that the shadows fall into an area that won't be in the picture.

Outdoors this would be done by deciding which direction you want the light to hit your model and then moving them to the proper position. With a studio lighting system indoors, you move and adjust the lights to find the best angles. If you are stuck using an on camera flash, you can bounce the light off a wall or the ceiling. This will effectively change the angle the light is coming from and striking your model. Be careful the ceiling and walls are not painted a color that will throw an odd color cast on the subject.

The final intensity and harshness of a shadow is determined by the size and strength of the light source, relative to the subject.

You can minimize a shadows intensity and the distraction it causes by lowering the intensity of the light.

Two easy ways to lower a lights' intensity are; use the same power settings, but move the light further from the subject or simply use less power to the light. (Good studio lighting systems have multiple power settings.)

You can change the size of the light - and make it bigger - with umbrellas, softboxes and reflectors.

You can consider a softbox or an umbrella as being like a cloud. When a cloud moves between the sun and your subject, the entire cloud becomes the light source. This obviously is a much larger light than just the sun by itself. The light wraps around the model and minimizes the shadow. Go outside and observe shadows from the sun and from a cloud. You'll see a huge difference.

There are entire books written about this subject and this message is by no means an exhaustive solution, but it should give you something to consider.

Shoot well.
